Farmers looking to improve the production of their grazing land will be impressed with two new disc seed drills recently released by Australian renovating plow and seed drill manufacturer Agrowplow.

Both these new drills are designed for typical pasture renovation work but more importantly are specifically equipped to handle the rigours of accurately sowing pastures in less than ideal situations.

Wade Smith design engineer for Agrowplow explained. “Steep hilly country and previously inaccessible rocky areas can now be improved with the new Agrowdrill AD800 All Terrain disc drill. Basically because of its rugged all terrain capabilities if you can drive a tractor over your country this drill will follow and sow!”

The new AD800 machine is equipped with 610mm (24”) double discs set at a 5 degree angle for positive seed placement. These discs are independent to allow them to ride over large obstacles like rocks and they have hydraulic breakout to provide optimum penetration. The pressure can be increased or decreased from the tractor seat.

“Our other new drill is the AD100 twin disc pasture drill which performs very well in rocky conditions and heavy trash sowing” Wade continued. This drill is based on our very popular AD100 design but features a double disc opener rather than a coil tyne and Baker boot opener. The twin disc units feature an exclusive spring loaded trip allowing up to 190mm vertical travel so the discs ‘roll over’ larger obstacles like rocks.” Wade explained.

“In addition to the spring trip the twin disc units can swivel +/- 10 degrees allowing them to negotiate around obstructions far better than a tyned implement can.” Wade said. “A bonus feature of the swivelling disc design is that it makes the drill more manoeuvrable by reducing the need to lift on corners” he added.

The new AD100 double disc drill has 380mm (15”) self cleaning notched or serrated discs. One disc has 11 notches and the other 15 which means the discs positively cut against each other eliminating the common problem of ‘hair pinning’ and providing a clean trash free seeding path.

Both new disc drills feature Agrowdrill’s exclusive double seed and fertiliser distributors. These distributors can sow from the smallest seeds up to the largest of peas and fertilisers. “With double distributors and the infinitely variable gearbox you can sow almost anything at any rate and calibrating for different seeds and fertilisers is a simple procedure” Wade explained.

Traditional Agrowdrill features are common on the new disc drills for example both have separate seed and/or fertiliser boxes, these boxes have their own heavy duty lids for durability and to avoid product contamination. Courtesy of the unique Agrowdrill cleaning gates the boxes are very easy to clean out when sowing is finished. The operator simply sets the bin lever to the ‘box cleaning’ setting and the gates open out allowing any remnants to fall straight through, cutting cleaning time dramatically.

“For greater operator safety all settings and adjustments on both drills can be made from the ground” Wade said. “In addition the height of the box in relation to the loading platform makes loading seed and fertiliser much easier and safer” he continued. “In fact the ease of access when loading any Agrowdrill is a great advantage. The extra wide platform, safety rails and steps offer easy access to the bins and are fully O H & S compliant.” Wade concluded.

The new drills are manufactured at Agrowplow’s plant in Wellington, New South Wales and complement the company’s core value of developing products that help improve soil structure and encourage more sustainable farming practices.
